Course Overview
Asset-based storytelling is the practice of examining, crafting, and sharing stories by centering individuals' and communities' strengths, agency, cultural assets, aspirations, and lived experiences. However, all too often, storytelling in the social sector focuses on deficits rather than assets. In this course, we focus on shifting narrative practice towards a strengths-based and equity-centered approach by inviting participants to learn about asset-based storytelling techniques and best practices.
- Understand the Principles of Asset-Based Storytelling: Gain a comprehensive understanding of asset-based storytelling, distinguishing it from deficit-based narratives.
- Identify Real-World Examples and Case Studies: Analyze and discuss real-world examples and case studies from your one professional and community contexts.
- Develop Skills in Crafting Asset-Based Narratives: Acquire practical skills in examining and crafting stories that focus on individuals' and communities’ strengths, resilience, assets, aspirations, and lived experiences.
- Reflect on your Storytelling Practice: Engage in a process of self-reflection to evaluate your storytelling approach, identify areas for growth, and identify your next steps.
